It will be written as month and year, e.g., “03 17” for March 2017. Understanding and checking the stamp date helps you know your propane tank’s expiration and when to have it recertified or replaced.
Above Ground Residential Propane Tank Lifespans
Above ground residential propane tanks typically include large tanks used to hold enough fuel to power heating and other various appliances. These tanks range in size from 100 to 1,000 gallons. The lifespan of these tanks can be 30 years or more with proper maintenance. Residential above ground propane tanks should be inspected annually by a professional. Additionally, homeowners should conduct visual inspections a few times a year for signs of wear, leaks, or damage. These tanks need to be recertified 12 years after the date of manufacture and then every 5 years after that.
